Of these emissions, building energy models tend to show that HVAC and domestic hot water systems represent around 75% of a building’s annual GHG emissions in Northern climates. Many of these involve converting fossil fuel-based systems to all-electric systems, combined with the continually improving emissions factor of our electrical grid, and the addition of on-site renewables.
